Professional Fleet recommends that your automotive brakes system is inspected annually for wear and performance.

Road conditions such as rain, sleet and snow will also test the performance of your auto brake system.

This is also when the quality of parts used to repair you brakes and the performance of your brake system is tested.

Most cars, trucks and vans built from 1998 to present require the use of ceramic brake pads or organic brake pads. The use of any other brake pad material will result in brake squeaks, brake squeals, severe brake dust, wheel discoloration and the premature failure of your brake system.

BRAKES SHOULD NEVER SQUEAK AFTER REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE CORRECTLY.

Brake squeak and brake squeal is caused by incorrect brake adjustment, low quality brake parts, low brake pressure, or incorrect brake repairs.
Correct brake repair and replacement of your brake pads and/or brake shoes should last 3-5 years and 30k-50k miles. If your brakes wear out sooner something is wrong. Squeaks and squeals can be an indicator of brake problems.

The correct procedure to repair brake pads and brake rotors on most vehicles:

  • Test drive vehicle and check for brake squeaks, brake squeals, brake pulsation, brake grinding, brake pulls, low brake pedal and incorrect brake adjustment
  • Remove all wheels for complete inspection of brake system
  • Scan for ABS or TRACTION control system codes
  • Remove all parts being replaced for closer inspection and evaluation
  • Clean and adjust brake system
  • Lubricate all moving parts and attaching points
  • Check brake fluid for discoloration, contamination and signs of moisture
  • Flush brake fluid and bleed brakes if needed
  • Test drive vehicle and verify all brake repairs were made correctly
  • Brakes should never squeak after brake repairs are performed
